There are plenty of weapons that Link can use in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but one iconic blade trumps all other weapons used by our hero -- the Master Sword.

You can find the Master Sword in Breath of the Wild , but it will take players on a frustrating journey to find the area and obtain the legendary weapon.

SPOILER ALERT! The following may spoil some story aspects of Breath of the Wild. If you don’t want to learn anything about it, turn back now.

Link has been asleep for 100 years, and his flashbacks always show him wielding the Master Sword. Even some of the characters you meet along the way ask about the legendary Master Sword, the one weapon that can seal away the darkness.

Among the many mysteries of Breath of the Wild, the location of the Master Sword is one of them.

Characters will drop hints about what Zelda did with it a century ago, and you’ll eventually figure out that the Master Sword is in the Great Hyrule Forest.

However, to get to the Master Sword you’ll need to cross the Lost Woods, which is a pain to do. Before you go searching out the Master Sword you’ll need to be sure to have at least 13 Heart Containers, we’ll explain why in a bit.

Once you make it to the Hyrule Forest, a thick fog accompanied by a girlish laugh will take you to the entrance of The Lost Woods. There are two parts to The Lost Woods to get through.

The first part has you follow the lighted lamps across the forest. As long as you follow them, the fog won’t engulf you. The final stop of the first section is the furthest, once you see the two lamps in the distance, just run for it before the fog gets you.

The second part of the puzzle begins between the two lamps. There is a torch waiting there for you, pick it up and light it. Link will have to make it through the woods with no lamps to protect him before the fog takes him back to the beginning.

What you’ll need to do is take it slow and go tree to tree. If you notice the fog about to engulf you, quickly walk backwards until the fog lifts. Don’t run because your torch will go out and you’ll need to light it again.

We had success going to the left for about four trees and then slowly making our way forward through the forest. Again, take it slow and go one tree at a time. If you go towards another tree and notice the fog getting thicker just turn around and go back and try a different direction.

The Master Sword will be waiting in the middle of the Great Hyrule Forest, where it’s being kept by the Kokoros. A tree spirit will explain to you what the Master Sword is and that you’ll need enough power to pull it out of the stone because it drains your energy.

The first time you try, if you don’t have enough Heart Containers, the tree spirit will stop you before you die.

If you decide to go and don’t have enough Heart Containers, there is a Shrine so you can open a portal to fast travel to the Forest whenever you want afterwards. You also can’t use Mipha’s power to restore you if it’s fully charged, so just get the necessary amount of Heart Containers before you do.
