'League of Legends' World Championship Icons: How To Upgrade To Tier Two And Three

The League of Legends World Championship starts this week, and Riot is rolling out some cool new features to celebrate. Championship Zed is hitting the LOL store from Sept. 26 through Nov. 6 and will cost 975 RP. For the first time ever, 25 percent of all the skin’s sales (along with the Championship Ward) will go to the World’s prize pool. Championship Riven will also be available for the first time since 2012.

The coolest feature this year has to be team icons and emotes. For 250 RP, you can buy a team icon, which comes with a temporary emote for Worlds. 30 percent of the proceeds go to the actual teams, so if you want to support your favorite brand, here’s the best way to do it. On top of these nifty little icons, Riot is also releasing new Hextech Crafting items so that you can upgrade your icons.

On each day of the World Championship, you can purchase up to 15 Championship Jewel Tokens for 150 IP each, each Token comes with two jewels. To upgrade your Worlds icon to tier two, you need to use five tokens, or 10 jewels. Tier two unlocks a special emote that appears above your head that works exactly like a Championship Mastery emote.

If you want to get a tier three icon, which puts your team’s logo under your recall, you are going to need to use six more Championship Jewel Tokens, or 12 Jewels. At tier three, the icon turns bright gold so everyone knows you are a real team player.

Hextech Crates opened during the World Championship come with extra Championship Jewels so that you can upgrade your icons before game day. Bundles of 10 chests will come with enough Jewels to upgrade to a level three icon and a Championship Ward.

Everything will expire, including old PROJECT crafting materials, on Nov. 6.
