If your heart skipped a beat last week when Gorillaz started flooding its Instagram and Facebook pages with videos of previous performances and photos, you’re not alone. With each post speculation increased a new Gorillaz album could be on the way.

According to the most recent reports, the Gorillaz new album is in the works but won't be out until 2017. Fans (and iDigi), however, remain skeptical. Normally when a band ramps up its social presence a new album, or at least a lead single/album title, will be on the way sooner than later. Gorillaz had only posted on its social channels once in 2016 until Sept. 20. From then until today it posted more than four dozen times.

“The gang is back!” a tweet said.

The Gorillaz new album has been teased for about a year when word got out the frontman Damon Albarn began working on the new Gorillaz album in September 2015. The Gorillaz animator Jamie Hewlett recently said the album would be out in 2017, however.

Gorillaz Tour 2016, 2017

With a Gorillaz new album and music reportedly on the way, the next question is when will Gorillaz tour? Well, according to some sly redditors a tour is definitely in the works. According to the Gorillaz subreddit, source code for the new Gorillaz website has a place holder for "live" shows and a Gorillaz tour. The redditors also show there is code for a new Gorillaz merch and news pages.

Gorillaz have not performed since 2010 when the band was touring for Plastic Beach . Although the band hasn’t played live in nearly six years, Albarn has been busy since the Plastic Beach tour. He’s recorded, and toured, on his debut solo album, beefed with Adele and has been featured on a few singles including the great 'Do Ya Thing.' The 2012 song also featured Andre 3000 of OutKast and LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy.
