The official Twitter for the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods novel on Starz has confirmed that Gillian Anderson will be joining the cast as Media:

Media is the spokesperson for the New Gods and thrives on the attention paid to screens, like TVs and cell phones. She takes on the form of various celebrities in order to make sure the public keeps on worshipping the screens they’re supposed to.

Its protagonist, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), a conman with personal ties to the battle between the deities.

So far, the cast includes Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian Mcshane as Mr. Wednesday. Shadow Moon is a former convict who becomes Mr. Wednesday’s traveling partner and bodyguard, while Mr. Wednesday is a conman with a personal connection to the fight between the gods. The two of them work to gather the forces to wipe out the New Gods, who are themselves determined to eliminate the Old Gods.

Emily Browning plays Laura Moon, Shadow Moon’s wife. Other cast members include Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney, Crispin Glover as Mr. World and Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith.

Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller works alongside Michael Green as showrunner, with Hannibal director David Slade also expected to direct American Gods.
