The Flash is gone. Barry Allen entered the speed force in order to stop a storm looming over Central City caused by his desire to mess around with the timeline. When Season 4 opens, it’ll have been six months since the last time we saw him and Barry’s actions have huge repercussions on Wally West, aka Kid Flash.

Ever since the Season 3 finale, fans are thinking Wally might have to take the mantle of The Flash. But Keiynan Lonsdale told us in an interview published on our sister site Newsweek that becoming the lead of The Flash is not on his radar. Of course, many news sites blew this quote out of proportion using clickbait headlines like, “Kid Flash won’t become The Flash in Season 4.” And while that’s partially true, it’s not the whole story, as we learn in set photos (below) from the Season 4 premiere episode, titled “The Flash Reborn.”

Lonsdale smartly teased this fact in his comment, “I feel as though there is so much story to tell and Wally has so much growing to do. I’d like to see that journey continue. That's what I think is important. We need to see how these character realistically get to where they are headed for.”

Lonsdale basically warned fans not to get ahead of themselves and suggested the series won’t skip the progression of his character. While these set photos do indeed show Lonsdale suited up in Grant Gustin’s red leather suit, this does not mean he’s taking on The Flash name. It’s more likely he’s just pretending to be The Flash to trick one of his adversaries and cover for the fact that Barry Allen has been missing. Central City doesn’t need to know that their beloved Flash is gone, that’s why Wally West is doubling up as both heroes for the time being.

We’ve seen this on Arrow, where Roy Harper and John Diggle dress as Green Arrow for a good ole’ bait and switch. It’s not an uncommon thing, but don’t get used to seeing Lonsdale in that red costume. While we don’t know how long the scarlet speedster himself will be gone, the series is not called Kid Flash. It’s only a matter of time before he comes back.
