‘The Flash’ Season 3: Zoom Actor Confirms He’s Now Black Flash And Teases Return

The Flash Season 2 finale saw Zoom get eaten alive by the time wraiths of the speed force. But if you watched closely and are familiar with a certain character from the comics, you may have noticed Zoom’s shrivelled face, sharp teeth and costume change as a clue. The evil speedster actually transformed into someone new: Black Flash.

iDigi’s own Phil Martinez suspected we could see Teddy Sears, who played Zoom, officially return as the character in the coming seasons. However, recent statements from the actor suggest that could happen sooner than later.

"Zoom has been transformed into Black Flash, who has quite a place in the mythology of The Flash . He's like the grim reaper for speedsters," Sears told TV Guide. "Andrew Kreisberg, the head writer and EP, has talked about their interest in having a Black Flash return at some point in the series."

Sears did point out that his role on Fox’s upcoming series 24 Legacy could complicate things, but he’s hopeful the execs can figure it out.

"It would be a lot of fun to drop back into that world. We'll just have to see if the guys on the other end feel the same way," Sears says. "It sounds like they do, but it's funny - now I belong to Fox, so there's lots of people that would have to give a thumbs up. But I really hope so."

Basically the grim reaper of the speed force and the time wraiths in human form, Black Flash is a great canon speedster for the writers to have in their back pocket, especially since Barry is learning more and more about the speed force with each day. But the timing of his introduction may have not been a coincidence, especially considering this season’s villain: Savitar. Black Flash has strong ties to Savitar, Barry and Wally. It would be a missed opportunity not to follow through with that arc at some point down the line.
