Five Nights At Freddy’s: The Freddy Files unexpectedly leaked earlier this week, and franchise creator Scott Cawthon has followed up that event by posting a brand new teaser image on the Scott Games website. As shown above, it’s a pixelized version of Freddy Fazbear or Fredbear holding a cake. There’s also a rainbow trail following his body.

Because this eight-bit teaser differs so widely from the incredibly detailed Freakshow Baby image that found its way to the internet on Thursday, nobody quite knows what to make of it. Does it relate to the project teased in that leaked illustration? Is Scott simply acknowledging the leak exists? Does this update have any meaning at all?

While nothing about Five Nights At Freddy’s analysis is ever too concrete, there are a few small details about this image worth reporting. Most obviously, the model of Freddy or Fredbear seen here is from the Take Cake mini-game of Five Nights At Freddy’s 2. We’re not sure if the rainbow has any significance, but there is a terribly hard Rainbow boss in the FNaF World RPG and the Five Nights At Freddy’s 4 Halloween Update. The one in this teaser has the exact same color scheme and order of that one.

In that sense the theories raised here are twofold. For one, might the unconfirmed game featuring Freakshow Baby have ties to Five Nights At Freddy’s 2? Will mini-games in the next main title flesh out some remaining holes in that beloved story?

Otherwise, is it possible we may be getting a direct sequel or major update to the existing FNaF World game? In June when Cawthon announced that his planned Five Nights At Freddy’s project had been canceled, he mentioned that a small, fan-focused idea akin to the Foxy Fighters mini-game from FNaF World update 2 was “the kind of project that I’d like to work on again.” Is this teaser an attempt to redirect fan expectation toward something more along the light-hearted lines of FNaF World?

Whatever the case may be, the Freddy Files leak and this new teaser image confirm that Scott definitely has something Five Nights At Freddy’s-related cooking in the oven. Beyond his wildly popular games franchise, the cliffhanger ending to The Twisted Ones novel ensures that at least one more of those books will be published. Then, of course, there’s the developing film project in the works at Blumhouse Productions. It’s been almost a year since a new game was released, however, so, in Cawthon time, it seems like it’s been long enough to return to what made us fall in love with Freddy in the first place.

For those who haven’t been following the latest FNaF news too closely, The Freddy Files is a brand new lore and game tips guidebook set to release at the end of this month. Leaks suggest it doesn’t do much to answer the series’ hottest questions, but the most popular fan theories are published in its pages.

Five Nights At Freddy’s games are available now on PC and mobile devices.

What do you think of this new eight-bit teaser? Does it confirm Five Nights At Freddy’s 6, or are we looking at another FNaF World-like concept? Tell us in the comments section!
