A new AI voiceover for Elite: Dangerous was unveiled by HCS Voice Packs this week, the latest in a series of official add-ons for Frontier Developments’ space sim, and fans of the classic Star Trek series will soon be able to receive feedback from the Rocket Man himself, William Shatner.

It’s an exciting time to be a member of the Elite: Dangerous community. The game’s latest update debuted this week, restoring official Oculus Rift support for the first time in months, and we’re days away from the first Elite: Dangerous players receiving their own VR headsets. As if the impending debuts of the Rift and Vive weren’t enough reason for fans to celebrate, the latest voice pack for the sprawling space sim has been released...and it features one of the most iconic science fiction actors of the last few decades.

William Shatner will make his Elite: Dangerous debut later this year as the vocal talent for a brand new voice pack that HCS is calling Orion. This isn’t the first time the studio brought in Hollywood talent for its Elite: Dangerous add-ons, either. Shatner’s upcoming voice pack joins a product line that also includes recorded dialogue from British actors Paul Darrow (Blake’s 7) and Tom Baker (Doctor Who). There’s even one that replaces all of the computer’s responses with a cat’s meow.

For a preview of the new William Shatner voiceovers, take a couple of minutes to watch the trailer for HCS Voice Packs’ upcoming Orion voice pack. Then head down to the comments and let us know whether or not you’re interested in the unreleased Elite: Dangerous add-on.

Those interested in downloading the new Orion voice pack can pre-order the $9.99 download on the HCS Voice Packs website.
