Bungie’s weekly community address revealed new details on planned changes to Destiny 2’s endgame were released on Thursday, including the reintroduction of private Crucible matches. But many of the studio’s plans still don’t have a timeline -- to be fair, expanding the shooter’s economy isn’t exactly a one day task -- and those that do won’t impact Destiny 2 until next year.

After weeks of grumbling from the Destiny 2 community, mostly because they’ve run out of things to do, Bungie is finally ready to offer some specifics on the gameplay changes the studio believes will make the endgame more enticing. In fact, it’s one of the goals listed in this week’s update from the studio, alongside more specific efforts like “better incentives for players who complete challenging Prestige activities” or “better rewards and replay value for strikes, adventures, and Lost Sectors.” But Bungie’s focus isn’t just on PvE content. The competitive side of Destiny 2 will also see changes.

The most significant change to the Crucible will be the return of private matches. It’s also the only feature from this week’s update with a specific timeline (early 2018). Bungie says it will also continue to tune other aspects of the PvP experience. Improved Supremacy scoring is on the way, along with new/better spawning rules and better incentives for Crucible participation. Bungie also plans to review the punishments meted for abandoning competitive matches.

All you emote fans out there can look forward to an expansion of the existing system. For years, players have only been able to equip one emote at a time. But Bungie says we’ll soon be able to equip multiple emotes and queue up the desired pose/dance/celebration when applicable. The team says it’s also investigating “new ways to spend surplus currency and materials” like the giant stacks of Legendary Shards many players have accrued since Sept. 6.
