Destiny 2 Bungie

If you just can’t get enough of the Destiny 2 beta, or haven’t had a chance to squeeze in some time with the Bungie’s next shared-world shooter, you’re in luck. The studio says the Destiny 2 open beta will continue a bit longer than originally scheduled. And we’re not just talking about tacking a few hours onto the original Monday deadline, either.

Details on the decision to extend the Destiny 2 beta are still pretty scarce. PS4 Destiny owners who’d pre-ordered the sequel gained access to the open beta on July 18. Xbox One owners with a preorder got in one day later and the rest of us plebs were finally allowed to join the festivities on Friday, July 21. Given how little content there is to see in the Destiny 2 beta, you’d think that would be more than enough time for most people to get their fill. But the powers that be have decided to keep the servers running longer than originally scheduled. And it doesn’t take much effort to find people celebrating that fact.

According to Bungie, the Destiny 2 beta is being extended to allow for “ additional service testing. ” Given the ultra-secretive -- some might say unnecessarily secretive -- nature of the games industry, few will be surprised to learn the studio didn’t elaborate on which service(s) are receiving extra attention. We’re leaning towards something Crucible-related, seeing as it’s the most replayable portion of the Destiny 2 beta build; however, it’s always possible the studio is planning a repeat of Sunday’s trip to the Farm. The studio says beta server access will remain open until 9 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday, July 25.

For more on the Destiny 2 beta, take a few minutes to check out the open beta trailer published earlier this month. Then head down to the comments and let us know what you think of the upcoming Destiny sequel after a few hours (or days) in the open beta.

Destiny 2 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game hits consoles on Sept. 6 before making the jump to PC on Oct. 24.
