The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has hit stores and it’s all about the upcoming Netflix/Marvel Studios team-up, The Defenders, including a possible release date window and the identity of the villain that will bring the team together.

When Sigourney Weaver first showed up on-stage at the Iron Fist panel during New York Comic-Con, it was revealed that she would be the main villain for the series. At the time, that was all the information given. No name, no motive, nothing.

EW has exclusive information regarding Weaver’s The Defenders character. First off, her name is Alexandra and she is described by showrunner Marco Ramirez as an “utter badass.”

“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower,” Ramirez said. “Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”

Written at the very bottom of the Sigourney Weaver story was the reveal that The Defenders will appear on Netflix in summer 2017.

The Defenders takes the titular characters from four Netflix/Marvel series, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist and puts them on a team to stop a threat much bigger than any one of them can stop alone.

The team will meet at Midland Circle (where that giant hole Daredevil found in Season 2 was located), and we know that The Hand will be involved in the plot somehow. From the cast interview video on EW, Finn Jones AKA Iron Fist confirms that he is the only one who understands what is going on.
