Janelle Monae may not play Domino in Deadpool 2 after all. Deadpool writer and producer Rhett Reese responded to Slashfilm’s tweet claiming Monae is the frontrunner to play Domino with a simple “wrong.”
Monae recently starred in two Oscar-winning films, Moonlight and Hidden Figures . Longtime fans know she’s also an amazing singer, so everyone was obviously extremely excited when The Hashtag Show (who have had some solid scoops as of late) first reported the rumor. THS also claimed Kerry Washington of Scandal was the previous frontrunner to play Domino before Monae, but was no longer up for the role.
Domino is a member of X-Force who will be introduced in Deadpool 2 alongside Cable, her mutant time-traveling lover in the comics. Domino’s telekinetic powers only take effect when in action. It’s like her body instinctively fights for safety if she takes action, but if she doesn’t, she could be injured and hurt just like a normal human. THS ’ casting breakdown for Domino describes her as capable and confident, a “no-nonsense badass who rarely shows her feelings.” She has “bullet-proof sarcasm,” but has trouble showing vulnerability because it’s “hard for her to let down her guard.”
It’s still unclear whether Reese shot down Monae being a frontrunner or the rumor altogether. But in the meantime, BossLogic got straight to work imagining what Janelle Monae could look like as Domino. Check it out below and we’ll keep you updated on the Domino rumors.
