In a new highlight reel/short at Blizzcon, Blizzard has revealed a new support character for Overwatch, a Talon geneticist named Moira.

“We are bedeviled by the mysteries of creation. Science can reveal the truths that lie behind these many questions. What we learn can unlock the true potential of humanity,” says Moira in a cold and sinister tone, opening her intro video.

Moira has some real high-fashion long purple nails (Sombra, eat your heart out?), while her powers employ a purple and yellow color scheme.

Her outfit is mostly black with purple or yellow highlights depending what power is at play, with long drapey sleeves and a Ghostbusters -style suction backpack. Moira has short red hair and what appears to be a scouter from Dragon Ball over one eye, so she can more accurately discern your power level, which may or may not be over 9000.

Her voice lines include:

  • “To the shadows” when teleporting

  • “Tell me how this feels” when giving someone the succ

  • “Come to me and I will heal you” when flinging her Ball o’ Heals up in the air (which appears to chain healing to her teammates as it moves along a path, as opposed to Zen’s personal Orb which only follows one teammate at a time)

  • “I will unmake you” when flinging her Ball o’ Succ at an enemy (which appears to latch onto a single enemy in its path and follow them)

  • “Simple geometry” when making fun of Hanzo for dying (relatable)

  • “Surrender to my will” when shooting a wave of Succ and Heals

  • “My will made real” when riding high on her own hype wave

Like Reaper, she can teleport, like Symmetra she can give the succ, like Zenyatta she’s got orbs and like Ana she’s old. Nice!

The Blizzard website describes Moira as follows:

“Moira’s biotic abilities enable her to contribute healing or damage in any crisis. While Biotic Grasp gives Moira short-range options, her Biotic Orbs contribute longer-range, hands-off damage and healing; she can also Fade to escape groups or remain close to allies in need of support. Once she’s charged Coalescence, Moira can save multiple allies from elimination at once or finish off weakened enemies.”

Her actual abilities are:

  • Biotic Grasp: “Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.”

  • Biotic Orb: “Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.”

  • Fade: “Moira quickly teleports a short distance.”

  • Coalescence : “Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.”

I love a good evil Support. Moira’s whole vibe reminds me of Suchong from Bioshock for some reason. I’m digging it and love how her abilities combine many familiar traits from other Support team members. She sounds so cool, I can’t help but wonder which of her many interesting abilities will get nerfed first. I’m obsessed with Coalescence: there’s just something so poetic about indiscriminately blasting a gigantic laser full of heals ‘n’ succs.

What do you think of Moira? Are you looking forward to giving the ol’ gal a spin? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
