Bernie Sanders on SNL: Presidential Hopeful to Appear on ‘Saturday Night Live’ Hosted By Larry David

In the wake of Bernie Sanders’ virtual tie with Hillary Clinton at the Iowa caucus, America is starting to “feel the Bern,” as the kids these days say. The results were hailed as a major triumph for the potential Democratic nominee, and now Sanders will carry that momentum forward on national television with an appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The news comes by way of Deadline, who report that Sanders will stop by SNL while Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David hosts this weekend. Though Saturday Night Live is not officially confirming Senator Sander’s appearance, it makes perfect sense for him to stop during an episode hosted by David. Back on October, David debuted his flawless Bernie Sanders impression on SNL for a fictional Democratic debate, so expect to see the pair team up on Saturday night.

I’m guessing we’ll see some sort of doppelganger moment, in which Sanders is forced to confront his other self played by David. How SNL will spin this remains to be seen: will it be used to promote Sanders’ increasingly popular political agenda, or simply be used for comedic purposes to emphasize the politician’s humanity? Oh yeah, either way it achieves the same goal, I suppose.

That’s perfectly fine with me, though. Regardless of your political affiliations, Sanders is a likeable guy and it will be fun to watch him (and/or others) poke fun of himself. And this isn’t the first time this has happened this presidential election either. Recall late last year when Hillary Clinton appeared on the sketch show, and then in November when Donald Trump hosted.
