This free expansion made its way to the PC version of ARK at the end of December, but it’s been quite the hassle to bring it over to consoles. Release delays on both platforms made reporting on the patch fairly difficult, but now we can officially say it’s available on all of ARK’s main builds. Ragnarok has become a popular facet of the game since its E3 reveal, and it’s great to see the final map taking shape. Deployment was occasionally a tangled mess of coordination between Wildcard and the Ragnarok team, but those conversations ultimately spawned something enjoyable. With plenty of new areas and artifacts to see, this is a can’t-miss update for ARK’s most hardcore survivors.

Now that Ragnarok is basically finished, the discussion can return to ARK’s future in the main game. Most recent updates have involved ironing out the Aberration expansion’s various kinks, but teasers tell us new content in an earth-like setting is on the way. Vanilla game players should also look out for the first wave of a multi-stage Dino TLC update that brings more detailed models to existing creatures. The free Dino overhaul goes live in February alongside the controversial Turret limit that will impact all official servers. Playstyles will need to adapt, but server performance will likely improve as a result.

When Wildcard first revealed Ragnarok this past summer, it was part of a larger plan for the studio to collaborate with the ARK community’s most talented modders. The poster child for the campaign is complete, but it’s hard to tell if that means we’ll be seeing another fan-made map anytime soon. Wildcard seems to have its hands full with its own content, so we wouldn’t be surprised if more emphasis was placed on that stuff for now instead of seeking out new partnerships. Regardless, Ragnarok still turned out fine despite the occasional miscommunication.

ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, OS X and Linux.
