ARK Survival Evolved has been updated to v274 on PC, and the latest patch notes tell us what’s included. As promised, the Heavy Turret has been introduced to cut back on server issues. Here’s everything you need to know.

Current Version: v274

  • Added "Heavy Turret," which packs approximately four times the power of a regular Turret and has faster tracking, but uses four Ammo per shot.

On Official Servers, in preparation for ultimately limiting all Turrets to 100 within a 10,000 unit range, only 100 Heavy Turrets can be placed in a 10,000 unit range, including ALL Auto Turrets & Plant Turrets within that range. If you wish to enable this Heavy Turret limit on your own unofficial Server, you can use these values in the ShooterGameMode section of your Game.ini:

bLimitTurretsInRange=true

LimitTurretsRange=10000

LimitTurretsNum=100

(Later on, those values will also hard-limit regular Auto Turrets and Plant Turrets)

  • Doubled Tek Turret Damage

As noted in a previous blog post, this new Turret is essentially a more powerful one intended to reduce the amount of Turret clusters slowing down official PvP servers. With that in mind, the rollout of a hard limit on how many Turrets can be used has begun. The current ramifications allow up to 100 Heavy Turrets per 10,000 units of space, and this will be true for all Turrets in the game by late December on PC. The new Turrets are obviously more expensive and require lots of Engrams to craft, but you get more bang for your buck with each one. The crafting requirements essentially allow you to replace four existing Turrets with one of these.

The Heavy Turret is expected to debut Dec. 12 on PS4 and Xbox One alongside the release of the paid Aberration DLC. At the dawn of 2018, the same hard limit will be fully enforced on consoles as well. It’s a change that will likely take some time to get used to, but most base design freedom will be maintained as long as the Turrets are as balanced as they can be.

ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, OS X and Linux. The Heavy Turret update is currently exclusive to PC.
