ARK: Survival Evolved will get its Aberration expansion next month, and Studio Wildcard just dropped a trailer to show off the new content it contains. The clip is full of fast cuts, but we’ve got the complete rundown so you don’t miss a thing.

Aberration takes players to a large malfunctioning Ark with an underground biome full of extreme environments, new creatures and gear to find. All that glowing comes from radioactivity, and the Dinos and inhabitants of the area feed off it. Humanoids called the “Nameless” pose a constant threat, but their main weakness is natural light. Here there is no atmosphere, only terror for those brave enough to explore the mysterious wilds.

With regard to creatures, the Aberration trailer features three of them. The camouflaging “Rock Drake” is a massive winged lizard with fast speed and flight. If you’re looking for a friend, the cute “Lantern Pug” will keep the darkness at bay. Ever wanted a giant enemy crab to toss your foes away? Take the “Cave Crustacean” for a spin. The high-end tame of the set is the “Nameless Queen.” It impregnates assailants with horrible chest-busting monsters, but we don’t see that power in action.

Gear fanatics haven’t been left out in the cold either, because Aberration contains 50 new items to craft including cave-climbing picks, wingsuits, ziplines and extendable ladders. Clothes, like hazmat suits, keep you safe from the environment. That fortification is enhanced by accessories like lanterns, batteries, glowsticks and more. The DLC culminates in a quest to fight a unique and unnerving boss. Teases suggest our main antagonist will be a mix of the new and familiar.

While all these goodies won’t be ready until October, those who purchase ARK’s $44 season pass will also get two Aberration-themed items today: the Aberration Helmet and the Aberration Sword. Both pieces of gear can be seen in the trailer above.

Aberration is technically ARK’s second major season pass expansion, as it was preceded by Scorched Earth during the game’s early access period. Now that the finished product is out of testing and in the wild, one more expansion beyond Aberration will be released for the purchase price.

ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, OS X and Linux. It’s assumed Aberration will release on PC before consoles.

What are your thoughts on this trailer and ARK’s Aberration expansion? Does it justify the purchase of a season pass for this early access game? Tell us in the comments section!
