Alternate Black Panther Costume Designs Would Have Scared The Shit Out Of You In ‘Captain America: Civil War’ [PHOTOS]

Black Panther had the best costume in Captain America: Civil War by a longshot. T’Challa’s sleek, black-on-black getup matches his calm yet assertive personality allowing him to slay any adversary in his path. But with every good costume comes a ton of trial and error, and Black Panther’s costume adaptation from comic book pages to live action wasn’t any different.

Character designer Jerad S. Marantz, who is part of Marvel’s visual development team, just gave us a look into the creative process behind Black Panther’s costume design, and apparently, The Man Without Fear’s ensemble could have looked wayyyyyyy more intimidating.

As if Black Panther’s presence isn’t startling enough in battle. The alternate costumes show T’challa looking way more like the feral cat he’s named after, but an alien version. Each muscle crevice is meticulously sculpted, so much so that it looks like the man is the costume instead of the other way around.

The fourth image is most interesting. The draft sketches depict an animalistic mask that looks much more like a panther. The mask we saw in Civil War is stylized with a white/silver silhouette, which does make the costume look distinctively Wakandan, as it’s most likely made of rare, high-tech materials only found in the most technologically advanced lands of MCU.
