There's a real Agent May, and a fake one. Who is who? Let's hope Coulson figures it out. ABC

The standout scene from last night’s episode of Agents of SHIELD Season 4 episode 9, “Broken Promises,” was Senator Nadeer shooting her brother, Vijay,  point-blank and throwing him out of a helicopter into the ocean. Brutal. Especially considering just moments earlier, Jeffrey Mace and Agent Daisy offered to help keep him safe by bringing him into SHIELD. He declined their offer and went with his inhuman-hating sister instead. Unbeknownst to Vijay, his sister intended to follow through with the promise they made to each other after their mother died in the Battle of New York: if one of them ever became “infected,” it was the other’s job to kill them.

But the final seconds of the episodes revealed an unexpected twist. Vijay Nadeer’s arc isn’t over yet. While he definitely died, it seems he’s somehow reincarnated. As soon as his body hit the ocean floor, a terrigenesis cocoon enclosed his corpse. This presents an interesting possible theory. If you remember back to the previous season, Daisy saved the world by crashing the Quinjet, loaded with Terrigen crystals, into the ocean. We saw the sea life become affected by the crystals, and they were later turned into fish oil tablets, which spread inhumans throughout the world.

This is likely why it appears Vijay is going through Terrigenesis another time. While we have never seen an inhuman come back to life, we’ve also never seen an inhuman stuck in transformation for seven months and then submerged in a cold bath of Terrigen Mist.

Before Vijay died, he jumpstarted his powers when being attacked by the Watchdogs. He has superhuman agility and appears to be a speedster or teleporter of some kind. It’s unclear how long he’ll be stuck in the new cocoon and if he’ll emerge with a the same or a new set of powers. It would be awesome to see an inhuman with dual powers -- like, say, superspeed and super strength. Either way, one thing is for sure. He’s going to want revenge on his sister.
